Who you're calling

Hi,
I'm Regan.

Regan Munn, your local Ilkeston locksmith. Call and you get me directly — not a dispatcher taking a message. Ilkeston sits between Nottingham and Derby and I cover both, so it is a normal run rather than an excuse for a surcharge. Fixed price before I start, and I turn up when I say I will.

Doors and locks in Ilkeston

Ilkeston's terraces were built for pit and factory workers, and some still have their original doors. The Erewash valley sits on the Derbyshire coalfield, pits worked in and around the town through the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, and rows of terraces went up beside the collieries for the men who worked them. Add the hosiery and lace factories and you get a town of Victorian and Edwardian terraces, stone cottages and converted mill property. A timber front door takes a mortice lock, and that is the one case where BS3621 is the standard your insurer actually means.

Kirk Hallam, Shipley View and the newer estates are cylinder jobs. Interwar and post-war housing and the modern estates around the edges of the town run on uPVC and composite doors, which lock with a euro cylinder driving a multipoint mechanism. If the handle has stopped lifting or you are leaning on the door to lock it, that is the gearbox inside the mechanism and it is a repair, not a new door.

Converted mill and cottage property is worth a proper look. Older stone property and mill conversions often ended up with whatever door fitted the opening rather than a matched set, and it is common to find a solid front door and a much weaker back one. The back door is the one that matters, because it is the one nobody on the street can see.

Ilkeston is in Derbyshire and I am based on the Nottingham side, which changes nothing about the bill: no zone pricing, no mileage, and the published figures quoted before I set off. If the honest answer is that a cylinder swap is all you need, that is what you will be told.

Common questions

Ilkeston locksmith FAQs

How much does a locksmith cost in Ilkeston?
There's no call-out fee, and you get a fixed price before I start — not an estimate that climbs once I've arrived. What it costs depends on the lock and what's actually wrong, so describe it on the phone and I'll give you the figure there and then. Every price I charge is published in my price guide if you'd rather see the numbers first.
How quickly can you get to me in Ilkeston?
Ilkeston is between Nottingham and Derby and I cover both, so it is usually inside the hour and often quicker for a lockout. Ring me and you will get a real time based on where I actually am, not a stock answer read off a script.
Will you damage my door getting me back in?
In most cases I can get you in with no damage at all, using non-destructive entry. If the lock is already broken and drilling is genuinely the only way in, you'll hear that from me before I touch anything — never afterwards on the invoice.
Are you available on weekends and bank holidays?
Yes — 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, including Christmas Day. Locks don't break to a schedule.
Which parts of Ilkeston do you cover?
The whole town — the centre, Cotmanhay, Kirk Hallam, Larklands, Hallam Fields and Shipley View — plus Little Hallam, West Hallam, Long Eaton and Sandiacre. Not sure whether you are in range? Call and ask.
Do you do car keys or vehicle locks?
No — vehicles are a separate trade with separate kit, and anyone claiming to be equally good at both is stretching it. For a car or van you want an auto locksmith or your breakdown cover. What I do is doors and buildings: houses, flats, garages, sheds, gates and commercial premises. Better you know that now than after waiting an hour for me to turn up and say the same thing.
Do you accept card payments?
Yes — card as well as cash, taken once the job's done and you're happy with it. No need to find an ATM before I arrive.
Coverage

Ilkeston & Surrounds

I cover Ilkeston and the areas that make it up: the town centre, Cotmanhay, Kirk Hallam, Larklands, Hallam Fields and Shipley View, along with Little Hallam and West Hallam, and south through Long Eaton and Sandiacre. Being on the Derbyshire side of the Erewash makes no difference to the price — there is one price list and it does not change with the county.
